Run Your Race. Stay in Your Lane.

When you look at athletes or runners, there’s something powerful about their focus. They are committed to running their own race. They’re not looking left or right. They’re not worrying about those around them. They stay in their lane and focus on what makes them great at what they do. They run their race. And in business, this is just as important.

The Pressure of Comparison

As business owners and leaders, it’s easy to get distracted. We see competitors scaling quickly, businesses growing online and leaders who appear to have everything figured out right? The noise is constant and the pace is relentless.

If we’re honest, there are moments where we all think: “Am I missing the mark?” I’ve had those moments. Social media doesn’t always tell the full story. What we often see is the highlight reel - not the reality.

The Reality of the Business Journey

Since founding the BYB Network in September 2024, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with clients and our local business community - building something I’m incredibly passionate about and proud of.

I have come to realise that no two journeys are the same. Behind every business, there are different pressures, responsibilities, risks and sacrifices. Decisions that keep people up at night and challenges that are not always visible.

It has reinforced the importance of sharing the journey, surrounding yourself with like-minded people, and having support that keeps you focused, grounded and accountable. You cannot be great at everything - and you are not supposed to be!

The Danger of Comparison

Comparison doesn’t just affect how we feel - it affects how we lead. It can influence decisions, pull us off track and lead us to chase the wrong opportunities.

Their lane is different. Their journey is different. That is why staying focused on your own path is critical.

Insecurity Is a Business Risk

Insecurity can quietly hold people back. It impacts how we think, act and show up as leaders. It can lead to hesitation, overthinking and playing small.

But when you understand your strengths and lean into them, everything begins to shift. You gain clarity, confidence and direction.

Play to Your Strengths

You do not need to be great at everything. What matters is being clear on what you are great at - and building around it.

Your strengths, your approach and your value are what create momentum, confidence and long-term success.

A Final Thought

In business, it’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing. However, the most effective leaders follow their direction, not the noise.

Run your race. Stay in your lane. Focus on what makes you great. Success comes from clarity, consistency and confidence in your own path.
